The falafel ball competition will begin early in the day and conclude with the weighing at 5 p.m.

“We are really going for it this year, and aiming for a 40 pound or bigger falafel ball,” said Sandi Hershenson, event chair. The current title holders produced a 24 pound falafel ball last year in New York.

Hershenson isn’t phased. She’s confident that guests on Sunday will see some records broken.

If you noodle for kugel, the kugel cookoff at 12:15 is a ‘don’t miss’ event. A panel of judges, including KHTS’s own Erin Walgamuth, Cindy Schwanke, Pastry Chef and Instructor of Culinary Arts at College of the Canyons; Tamara Levine, Director of Catering at Salt Creek Grill and a very special judge to be announced at the event, a local Jewish Bubbe.

Get your fill of corned beef, bagels and shmear and other delicacies from vendors at the festival, including food trucks from Canter’s Deli and kosher vendors such as Takosher, The Schnitzel Wagon, and Sweet E’s Bakery. Other trucks include Sam’s Flaming Grill, the Yalla Truck, Bagel Boyz, Just A Little Sweet and the legendary A-1 Pickles.

Live entertainment for all ages will also be presented throughout the day, including SoulAviv, Cantor Kenny Ellis, Israeli dance instruction and Len Levitt and the Levity Puppets and many more performers.

The children’s area will allow young ones to enjoy face painting, Jewish crafts and a bounce house. Additionally, PJ Library, a non-profit organization that distributes Jewish stories to young children all over the country, will be at the festival signing up families to receive free books.

The SCV Jewish Food and Cultural Festival will also be the place to stock up on all of your Judaica items, such as jewelry, clothing, B’nai Mitzvah gifts, tallit, and kippot.

Mitzvah Alley is the newest addition to the SCV Jewish Food and Cultural Festival. Here you can help to support over a dozen different organizations that help those in need. The American Red Cross will be on site to collect life-saving blood donations, donate your hair to Locks of Love, help the homeless with Family Promise, and send cards to Jewish soldiers overseas with Project MOT.
