Teen health clinic opens in Jefferson
The goals of Teen Matters are to promote abstinence, increase effective use of contraception among sexually active individuals, and to reduce risk-taking behavior. Officials say this is done by offering comprehensive clinical services and educational programs. Health educators will provide one-on-one and group educational programs on a wide variety of health topics to schools, churches, and community groups. The teen center also provides the public with the Health Resource Library. It's moving week: Coweta Health Department will reopen Monday in new building on Hospital Road

It's moving week for the Coweta County Health Department.
When the department reopens to the public on Monday, operations will be based at the new facility at 70 Hospital Road, according to Nurse Manager Alice Jackson.
The old health department on Jackson Street was closed Monday in observance of Memorial Day. The facility will remain closed to the public this week while employees relocate to the new building near Hospital Road's intersection with the Newnan bypass.
Jackson said Wednesday patients are encouraged to call Monday to schedule an appointment, rather than showing up hoping to be seen.
"We will not be able to accommodate everyone," said Jackson. "Also, it's a new building, and we're trying to adapt. This is all a little stressful. Thankfully, we've had no major hiccups so far."
Jackson said the county has been "terrific" during this process. Health department employees meet regularly with county officials to make sure the move is going as planned and to adapt when necessary.
Jackson said records and the vaccine refrigerator/freezer were moved on Tuesday. Staff had to be packed and ready for the move Tuesday morning when the moving company arrived.
Jackson asked for a grace period while employees implement and learn to use a new phone system and all new computers. If phone calls aren't returned in a timely manner, try again, she suggested.
"This is going to be an exciting adventure," said Jackson. "Please bear with us as we continue to work with clients."
Overall, though, Jackson is thrilled to be moving into a "wonderful" facility.
"We will have more parking and the waiting area is much larger," she said. The facility is about a third larger than the Jackson Street facility.
Jackson said the move was made easier by the fact they're leaving many things behind, like a massive filing system and office furniture. The old building will be remodeled and occupied by Coweta Samaritan Clinic -- a planned free primary care clinic for low-income Cowetans.
The new health department cost $1.7 million and was funded through a $1.5 million contribution by the Coweta County Hospital Authority and $500,000 in stimulus funds from a Community Development Block Grant offered through the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
