Under-18 football team notches win
SAINT JOHN - New Brunswick's under-18 football team defeated the Beauce Condors of Quebec 29-7 in an exhibition game Saturday at the Canada Games Stadium in Saint John.
Matthew Code of the Leo Hayes Lions, Fred Hammond of the Saint John High Greyhounds, Andrew Dornan of the St. Malachy's Saints and Blake Murphy of the Fredericton High Black Kats each had touchdowns for New Brunswick.
Quarterbacks Michael Bohan of the Tantramar Titans and Kyle McConnell of the Bernice MacNaughton Highlanders each completed touchdown passes.
Samuel St-Laurent recorded Beauce's lone major.
New Brunswick completed its exhibition schedule with a 1-1-1 record.
Football New Brunswick technical director Dave Blanchard said the players experienced the game at a new level and it will help prepared them for the Canada Cup national championship tournament next summer in London, Ont.
Bloyce Bulman tournament slated
The fourth annual Bloyce Bulman Memorial Scholarship golf tournament is scheduled for July 21 at the Moncton Golf and Country.
Bulman is a former standout football player with the Mount Allison Mounties and Riverview High Royals who died four years ago.
The golf tournament will feature a four-man scramble with a registration fee of $500 per team. Proceeds will go to a scholarship fund for sports-related scholarships for deserving Riverview High graduates.

McCafferty captures Petitcodiac event
PETITCODIAC - Drew McCafferty of Moncton Golf and Country Club drove his first shot out of bounds Saturday, but he rebounded to win the Petitcodiac Invitational yesterday at the Petitcodiac Valley Golf and Country Club.
McCafferty carded rounds of 71-66 to finish the 36-hole tournament with a total of 5-under par 137.
David Freeman of the host club (72-69-141) placed second, followed by Jean Maineville (79-67-146). Kevin Lunney had the low net of the first division with a 140 total while Scott Weatherhead placed second at 142.
Shawn Branch won the second division with rounds of 70-77 for a 147 total while Roger Sears was second with rounds of 77-75-148. John Brown's 139 was the low net, followed by Greg Jones at 141.
Ken Greenwood (75-75-150) took home third division honours, followed by Mike McQuinn (78-80-158). Rick Newman carded the low net with a 138, followed by Tom Leithch at 146.
