Medicare information: State Rep. Anthony DeLuca (D-Chicago Heights) and his Senior Advisory Committee will host a “Medicare ABC’s, D and more!” program from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday (June 30) at Village Woods, 2681 Illinois Route 394, Crete. The program is designed for anyone interested in obtaining information on Medicare, Social Security, Medicare Part D, State of Illinois prescription drug programs and other health information. Free blood pressure readings will be provided by Providence Life Services and lunch is provided by Village Woods. There will be a question-and-answer period after each presentation. Blood Drive: A blood drive will be held from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. today (June 29) at the student lounge of Sanford-Brown College, 8525 W. 183rd St., Suite K, Tinley Park. Childbirth Education: A four-week class that meets once a week is designed to help prepare couples for childbirth. Topics include the stages of labor, breathing techniques, epidurals and pain management, reasons for Cesarean sections, newborn care and infant safety. This class should be taken at the beginning of the third trimester of pregnancy. Instructors are certified childbirth educators. Classes will be offered from 6:45 to 9 p.m. on Wednesdays from July 6 through July 27 at Christ Medical Center, 4440 W. 95th St., Oak Lawn. The cost is $80 per couple. Registration is required. Childbirth Education Refresher: This class meets once a week for two weeks and is designed to refresh attendees’ memories about the physical and emotional changes, labor, delivery, breathing techniques, role of the support person and postpartum. This class should be taken at the beginning of the third trimester of pregnancy. Couples must bring two pillows and a blanket to class. Classes will be held from 6:45 to 9 p.m. on July 6 and July 13 at Christ Medical Center, 4440 W. 95th St., Oak Lawn. The cost is $40 per couple for the two-session class. Registration is required.
