Get Ready for the Hunt!
KIDS! Are you ready for Treasure? Are you ready for The Hunt?
Five downtown businesses are participating in the Kokomo Perspective Treasure Hunt on Saturday, June 11 from 10 am to 2 pm.
And, YOU need a map to find your way around! Go to www.kokomoperspective.com/kids/treasure and scroll down to the bottom of the page to print out your treasure map! Kids ages 6 to 12 need to bring their parent or guardian and their treasure map to each of the stores, where they will receive a sticker to put on their map and a freebie treasure from the store as well as do a fun activity!
Once you have finished the treasure hunt, MAKE SURE you fill out the top part of your map and bring it to the Kokomo Perspective mail slot...this will then enter you into the drawing on Monday, June 13, for six grand prizes!
At each business, here is what kids, ages 6 to 12, who are treasure hunters will receive and do:
At The Vault Coffee and Connections, treasure seekers will receive a free fountain drink and a fresh-baked cookie and make a coffee bean craft!
At Angie Meyer's Design, kids on the hunt will receive a to-be-announced freebie and participate in a to-be-announced activity!
At Planet Mind/The Pointy Pencil, map bearers will receive a free tattoo and take part in face painting!
At The Sound of Music, kids seeking treasure will receive a free kazoo and watch a ukulele demonstration!
At Sweet Poppin's, treasure hunters will receive a free small sample bag of gourmet popcorn and take part in three activities: "Guess the flavor" (sniffing game), "Guess the number of kernels", and a ball toss game!
As you can see, this is planned to be a fun-filled day, but it won't stop there...as the drawing for the grand prizes happens on the following Monday. The grand prizes are:
The Vault Coffee and Connections: $25 gift card
Angie Meyer's Design: To Be Announced
Planet Mind/The Pointy Pencil: $25 gift certificate
Sound of Music: $10 gift certificate
Sweet Poppin's: Gift Bag valued at $7

Kid-Friendly Beach Activities
Florida vacations provide plenty of fun in the sun and relaxation on beaches, but it might be hard to come up with new ideas to keep your younger kids entertained. Besides playing on the beach and making sandcastles, here are some kid-friendly beach activities you can try out on your next Florida vacation.
Go fly a kite. The next time you head out to the beach, try taking a kite with you. You can make kites for a fun activity before your vacation or buy one before you leave or when you arrive. Kites come in all sorts of colors, shapes, and sizes, so your kids can pick one out that reflect their personalities.
Play hopscotch in the sand. Not only is the beach great for building sandcastles, but you also can draw a hopscotch grid in the sand and challenge your kids to a game. Make it even more challenging by drawing more “one” boxes than “two” boxes, keeping you on one leg while you try to balance.
Build a treasure map. While your kids are playing in the water, bury hidden treasure nearby and draw a treasure map for your kids to follow. The buried treasure could be new sand toys to play with or silver quarters.
Play sand skee ball. Kids love to dig holes in the sand, but you can easily turn that enthusiasm into a game. Have your kids dig holes resembling a skee ball game, big enough to let a tennis ball in. You can draw different point values in the sand for the different holes. All you need to bring is a tennis ball. For older kids, have them keep track of their points so they can practice their math skills by adding up their points.
Make works of art out of beach treasures. Have your kids gather different treasures that they can find on the beach—pebbles, shells, sticks, rocks, and more. Then have your kids each make a different picture out of their finds. Pretty soon, you will have your own art gallery to admire!
Have a sand sculpture contest. See who can make the biggest, wackiest, or most fun sand sculpture. You could also have everyone build the same thing and time them to see who finishes first. Bring along different prizes for each kid or hand out awards like Most Creative.
Race handmade sailboats on the waves. Before you head out to the beach, create sailboats out of common household items like soda bottles, popsicle sticks, and so on. Have each kid build a boat, and then have races on the waves to see which boat is the fastest or which stays afloat the longest.
