LENOIR COUNTY -- The weather is hot. A water park sounds cool, right? Nestled in the tobacco fields of Lenoir County, equipped with palm trees and a "no shark bite" guarantee, is West Water Park. Timmy West owns the park with his brother and says, "Starting to see some growth from it, and it's becoming more and more popular now. I never really thought it would take off. We've been blessed with the business." One main attraction is the 65 foot water slide. If you're taller than four feet and don't mind the height, it's the slide for you. The kids fill the pool during the summer. Some kids grow up to become a lifeguard like Nikki Garner. "I would always look at the lifeguards, and I knew I wanted to do that as a summer job. I got the job when I was a Junior in high school and I've been doing it ever since. It's going on 6 years now." Families come from miles around to the water park in the fields and reminisce of old times. Ryan Vernon used to be a lifeguard at the park. Now he brings his church's youth group. "We used to slide into the pool. Slide down the slide, swing on the trapeze. It's a lot of fun. You share a lot of old stories, a lot of good stories and a lot of fun stories."
