Connecticut High School Musical Theater Awards Tonight at Waterbury Palace
More than 2,000 high school students, friends, teachers and family are expected to descend on Waterbury's Palace Theater, 100 East Main St., tonight for the third annual Connecticut High School Musical Theater awards.
Twenty high schools will compete for the honors. The winners for best actor and actress will go on to compete in the nationals later this month in New York City for the chance for a four-year scholarship plus $10,000. (A Connecticut student won the prize in the first year of the Connecticut competition.)
The pre-show recption begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by the show from 6;30 to 9:30 p.m.
Joe DiPietro , a Tony Award-winner for his book and lyrics to "Memphis", will be master of ceremonies. Guest presenters include three-time Emmy Award-winner Kim Oler (the creator of Disney's "Doug Live!" lyricist and writer William Squier , Broadway actor Guy Fortt and the executive director of the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education, Robert J. Rader.
